In 2017 we will not be holding the Open Gardens event (splendidly organised in 2016 by Susie and William Mitchell), but we will be running the Scarecrow Trail (mainly for families) and also a Scarecrow Competition (for organisations and businesses).
Start thinking about your scarecrow ideas now!
This year’s Trail will take place on Sunday 20th August on the theme of BOOKS!
That gives your imagination plenty of scope for depicting your scarecrows as characters, titles, authors or anything bookish!
There will be 2 categories for judging this year –
Family – including at least one scarecrow maker under 16
Adult – all scarecrow makers over 16.
The best scarecrows will be awarded a rosette.
Last year, there were over 20 fantastical, beautiful, clever or funny scarecrows.
Come and join in the fun and make this year’s Trail bigger and better than ever.
Even if you just want to make one for fun, please enter your scarecrow so that it will be on the Trail map.
Entry is open to residents of Long Buckby and Long Buckby Wharf. Entry fee is £1.
Entry forms are available from the Peephole, and Buckby Newsagents or can be downloaded here using 2017 Scarecrow Trail Schedule. The closing date for Scarecrow Trail entry is Friday 4th August.
Visitors will pay £1 for a map of the Trail.
Will and Susie will on the market square on the afternoon of the Scarecrow Trail (Sunday 20th August) to sell maps. Maps will also be available from Buckby Newsagents beforehand.
Plants will also be for sale at the Market Square in the afternoon.
This year’s competition will take place as part of the Produce and Craft Show on the 26th August and is open to any local organisation, group or business.
Scarecrows should be on the theme of books but if they reflect your business or organisation so much the better.
Entry is £5. The best scarecrow will awarded a rosette.
Entry forms from the Peephole, and Buckby Newsagents or can be downloaded here using 2017 Scarecrow Competition Schedule. The closing date for Scarecrow Competition entry is Monday 14th August.
